PaRBA Junior Basketball Competition – Under 11s, Under 13s and Under 17s
In this mixed gender league, we've tailored the rules to ensure a level playing field, focusing on skill development and fair play. Every participant, no matter their experience, enjoys equal game time. Our volunteer coaches also cultivate an environment of respect, teamwork, and sportsmanship, providing a space for young athletes to thrive and grow.
PaRBA has a culture of participation and playing for the love of the game. We are not an overly competitive competition; we play for fun. Yes, we encourage development and giving your best, but if individual stats and scoring the most baskets is important to you, we might just not be the right fit.
Many junior players drop out of sport in this age group due to competing pressures of school, social life, and family commitments. We play for fun and to be a place our young people can come and meet their mates and be active. PaRBA United is our competitive focused teams that play in the Darwin Basketball Association, we are happy to support a competitive journey through those teams.
Our teams are mixed ages, mixed gender, and mixed ability.
If this sounds like the game for you or your child, come join the PaRBA community.
We are always looking for extra hands to help on training and game days. No experience needed, just a passion for helping and giving back.
Please note, if you are registered in the PaRBA United competition, we will not accept your registration in the PaRBA Junior Basketball Competition. Additionally, team placement is at the discretion of PaRBA to ensure a balanced and enjoyable experience for all participants. Please discuss with PaRBA administration team if required admin@parba.org.

Uniforms:
To ensure that every child has the opportunity to participate and enjoy the sport, we've made a conscious decision to use playing bibs instead of traditional basketball uniforms. This approach reduces the cost burden on families, making it more accessible for all. Our playing bibs allow players to comfortably engage in the game. They are also ensure that our focus remains on developing skills, teamwork, and a love for basketball. Bibs are handed out and returned on game days.
Referees:
In most cases referees will be Primary school or Junior High school students. Many are also learning to officiate, and you will notice that most referees will be wearing the bright green shirt. We have a Zero Tolerance Policy when it comes to verbally criticising the referees. All officiating issues must be directed to the Court Supervisor in Charge on the day.
Rules:
Some Minor variations are made to the FIBA rules to suit the different age groups playing:
- No Timeouts or substitutions in the last 2 minutes for all grades
- Penalty shooting line varies dependant on the grade
- Teams must play player on player defence - NO ZONES.
Forfeits:
In general there are no forfeits our Junior Basketball Competitions as the referees will always try to arrange a scratch match. It is advised to notify PaRBA if your team/child cannot attend for any reason. Teams notifying on the day make it difficult to inform the other team as parents and carers have already planned for that day re collecting children etc.
Parents and carers:
To assist with the operation of the Junior Basketball Competitions you are advised to sit on the spectator seating and not on the team bench unless you are the coach or the Team Manager. Players should not be sitting on the floor in front of their team bench. Parents and carers are also urged to control the behaviour of any siblings not playing. Sitting too close or running around the courts will obstruct the referees and may reduce your child's playing time as the referees deal with these off-court issues.
